This isn’t something I typically post on this blog, but what the heck. This is an image of my younger brother and our Death Trap motorcycles we built.
I took the photo using my Hasselblad 500cm, 80mm 2.8 lens with Tri-X 400 film developed in Xtol 1:1. – I then scanned the negative in and gave it a subtle sepia tone.
I have 3 passion in life… Photography, motorcycles, and guns. Occasionally they cross paths.

Here’s a photograph I made a few years ago – It’s been on my website, but never posted on my blog with details.
In 2005 I was in Chicago doing who-knows-what. Naturally I had brought my camera to take photographs of the city while I was there. As I was walking around I saw an older gentleman, a street performer, playing a violin on a busy corner.
I’ve seen many street performers, but this was the first time I had ever seen one playing a violin. I used to play the violin when I was younger and have a huge respect for those that have mastered this difficult instrument.
The camera system I had with me was a Canon 20D with a 100-400mm lens. As my focal length was plenty long, I backed off and sat on a park strip and listened to the beautiful music competing with the sounds of traffic.
While sitting there, I composed a few shots and timed them between the crowds of people passing by. This one is my favorite.
I love the look on the mans face. He seems to be very passionate about his craft, and at total peace playing for coins on a busy corner.

Talented photographer and friend of mine, Michael Ririe, is raising money to fund his book.
Check out the info on his project and help him out if you can.
A couple years ago I went to the Fort Duchesne Pow wow with my wife and good friend Tavis Johnson. I brought with me my Hasselblad 500 CM, 80mm 2.8 lens and some Kodak Tri-X 400. I was eager to make a few black and white portraits. I’ve always had a great respect for the culture and honestly have been a little jealous of the sense of brotherhood they have. Some of them were kind enough to let me photograph them in their traditional dance attire. Very impressive. Here are a few.

Here’s a couple of medium format film photographs I took with my Hassleblad 500cm using Kodak Tri-X 400 and processed in Diafine.
The images are of a large rock slab on the California coast near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Yes, more old boats and ships in black and white. Photographers generally shoot for 1 of 2 reasons: For someone else i.e. to make money, or, for themselves, because they connect on some level with the subject. I photograph for the later.
I use my old trusted Hasselblad 500cm medium format film camera to capture these 2 forgotten beauties. I used my favorite film/developer combination: Kodak Tri-X 400 with Diafine.

Another black and white photograph from my visit to Italy. I shot this with my medium format Hasselblad 501cm camera with Ilford Delta 3200 film.

While my wife and I were in Italy last November, we toured the Vatican. Beautiful granite pillars, perfect for black and white film photography. I made these images with a Hasselblad 501cm and Ilford Delta 3200, a film I haven’t used much, but love the film grain. Processed with Xtol.
What do you think of the figure in this first photograph? Does she add to the image? Would you rather her not be there? Leave a comment and let me know.

A few years ago I went to Ecuador and photographed everyone I could with my Hasselblad 500CM. I used black and white film – Kodak Tri-X 400. Many of these images I posted on my website or blog, but these 2 never were… So here they are.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
